Although there is no restriction on the industries under the Scheme, under normal circumstances, the following categories of people are less suitable to apply for the Scheme.
1. The industry is not in shortage in Hong Kong
If you are a teacher, administrator, salesperson or proprietor, you are more likely to be rejected because the government's main objective is to bring in talents from industries where there is a shortage of local talents.
In the education sector, academic research talents may be more desirable than general teachers working visa extension hong kong; in the technology sector, technology R&D talents may be more attractive than salespersons; mainland administrators may face material constraints such as Hong Kong-Macau permits.
This is related to the current state of economic development in Hong Kong. If you are in an industry where there are already more local talents, it may be more difficult to enter Hong Kong through the merit-based program, unless you have very outstanding characteristics.
2. Bachelor's degree but no diploma
The most basic academic requirement for the Hong Kong Talents Scheme is a bachelor's degree. Undergraduate degrees from adult education and self-study can be considered, but you need to provide the relevant graduation certificate with a degree verification report issued by the China Degree and Postgraduate Education Information Network (DegreeNet). Full-time qualifications may be given priority in the Immigration Department's vetting process (Priority: full-time / part-time / distance learning). Therefore, if your academic qualifications do not meet the requirements, it is advisable to explore other avenues.
3. Unable to provide Hong Kong and Macao Exit Permit or Consent to Visit Hong Kong
Some applicants may not be able to obtain the Hong Kong-Macao Exit Permit or consent to travel to Hong Kong due to the nature of their work or the rules of their organizations. If you are unable to provide these documents, you may not be able to pass the application because a Hong Kong-Macao-Exit Permit is required for Mainland China residents applying for the Hong Kong Talents and Professionals Scheme. In addition, applicants are required to provide a letter of consent to go to Hong Kong issued by their units. If the organization does not agree or cannot provide the stamped document, the application will also be affected.
4. Unable to travel to Hong Kong
If you are unable to travel to Hong Kong for the whole journey, you may not be suitable to apply for the Hong Kong Talents Scheme. Hong Kong does not grant resident status easily. The main objective of the QMAS is to attract talents to Hong Kong to develop and enhance Hong Kong's competitiveness.
Renewal of the Hong Kong Talent Scheme is relatively flexible and there are no strict residency or work requirements, but in order to successfully renew your visa and obtain permanent resident status, you will need to maintain a certain level of association with Hong Kong. This can include children studying in Hong Kong, business exchanges, working in Hong Kong, starting a business, residing in Hong Kong for a certain period of time each year, or providing a Hong Kong address.
